Our Team
Paula Dupuy, DVM
Dr. Paula grew up on a farm in Flamborough, near Valens. Her father, Harry was a “gentleman farmer”, living his dream after a long career in manufacturing in the energy industry. He populated the farm with cattle, sheep, chickens and most importantly, horses. Dogs and many cats were also a big part of the picture and Paula grew up surrounded by animals. After high school, Hillfield-Strathallan College, Paula decided to leave the farm and test out city life in Montreal where she attended McGill University. It wasn’t long before Paula greatly missed the country, riding horses and her home. She decided to apply to veterinary school and moved back to Ontario to attend the Ontario Veterinary College. There, a lifelong passion began. Paula graduated in 1992 and with a little wanderlust, moved to New York state where she worked in mixed practice for 11 years. Paula credits this time for really cutting her teeth in the business. There was a lot less support than there is now, and the case load was intense. Referral was rarely an option and Paula dove into the deep end of veterinary medicine, dealing with whatever was in front of her in the best way that she could.
Paula returned to Ontario in 2003 with her daughter Isabel and started Troy Veterinary Mobile. This quickly morphed into Troy Veterinary Services and now Troy Animal Hospital and Troy Equine Services. These practices were built one patient, one client at a time. Dr Paula’s goal has always been to provide personalized, compassionate care, seeking answers to all problems and offering a veterinary service that was both excellent and fair. She believes staying true to this practice model has been the key to our success. The veterinarians and support staff who have joined the team, committed to this same mission, have made this practice much greater than she could ever have done on her own.
Most recently, Paula has developed an interest in canine sports medicine and lameness, applying concepts that she developed in equine practice to canine athletes. Certified as a Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian (CCRV), Paula enjoys solving lameness issues in dogs, using musculoskeletal ultrasound and thermal imaging.
In 2011, Paula lost her daughter Isabel in a car accident, while on call, due to black ice. This event was a turning point in her life. She says that it has made her only more compassionate and more determined to live every day to its fullest, being the best veterinarian and employer that she can be. Life is a journey and how we live it, is all that matters.
There are not enough hours in the day for Paula, who when not practicing veterinary medicine, can be found with her horses and her hunt club, with her husband Johnny on their boat, playing the piano or the flute, or knitting garments for friends.
Her most recent accomplishment has been building a veterinary practice in the historic Westover General Store. With a love of history and the community, Dr Paula calls this her legacy project. She has honoured the history of the building, while creating a professional space to care for your companion animals. Come and see her there!
Rayna Jancar, Registered Veterinary Technician
Rayna was born here in Cambridge Ontario, and moved around to live in London, Calgary, and Toronto before moving back to her roots in Cambridge. She was able to spend a lot of time on her grandparents farm where she was always surrounded by animals. (Also where she discovered they weren’t just fun for eating!) Rayna went on to complete an Equine Coaching program at Humber College which led to her attending the Veterinary Technician Program at Sheridan College. Rayna describes going back to school in her 40’s to become a registered veterinary technician as one of her great professional accomplishments as it was a passion of hers for so long. Away from the clinic Rayna enjoys being very involved with her church and going for hikes with her husband and Cane Corso, Frankie.
Clarissa Chaisson, Veterinary Technician
Clarissa grew up in the Lynden/Hamilton area and had an interest in animals from a very young age. Clarissa’s passion grew from watching our very own Dr. Paula treat and care for her animals for 16 years. This made Clarissa want to help and she went on to attend Seneca College to become a Veterinary Technician, graduating in 2016. Outside of the clinic Clarissa spends most of her time with her friends and family, walking her dog Barron, or having snuggle sessions with her cat, Smokey.
Sherri Roth, Hospital Manager
Sherri grew up locally in Cambridge, Ontario and has always had a special passion for wildlife. She hand raised a few baby raccoons and successfully released them back into the wild! Sherri graduated from Sheridan College in the Veterinary Technician program in 2013 and has loved working here ever since. Outside of work Sherri enjoys hiking with her Great Dane Bomber, playing with her son Liam, and getting her hands in the soil working on her home garden.
Melissa Radeska, Registered Veterinary Technician
Melissa grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. She has always been interested in animals and knew she wanted a life working with them. Her interest in animals initially peaked as a little girl working on a horse farm to pay for riding lessons. She then got her first dog “Trixie” a Maltese Poodle, she was hooked! After completing a highschool co-op at a veterinary clinic, Melissa went to Seneca College graduating in 2011 from the Registered Veterinary Technician program. Melissa loves being a veterinary technician as she feels the bond of trust built between client, patient, and their veterinary team is like no other. She feels most proud when making a client and patient feel comfortable at the clinic, knowing the level of care our veterinary team can provide. Outside of the clinic Melissa spends time with her family, including her boyfriend and their son, along with their 13 year old Yorkie, Milo. Melissa loves to travel and ensures to make time for a trip at least once a year, and any chance she has to get back in the saddle, she takes!
Kourtney Rivers, DVM
Dr. Kourtney grew up locally in Glen Morris, Ontario. For as long as she can remember, she has always wanted to be involved in the care of animals. From playing catch and release with the critters in Grand River, to starting and running a Pet Club which cared for people’s pets while they were away. Dr. Kourtney has a solid background in training and socializing dogs as she has fostered 3 puppies for the Canada Guide Dog program, as well as entered her family dogs into multiple fall fairs to display their tricks and talents. She rode horses through her younger years all the way up to the start of her Bachelors of Science at the University of Guelph. This is when Dr. Kourtney began volunteering in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital on campus and solidified her decision to pursue veterinary medicine after she completed her undergraduate degree in 2005.
She went on to complete her Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 2009, and is currently completing certifications in Veterinary Herbal Medicine and Veterinary Acupuncture from Chi University (Expected 2023). Dr. Kourtney recognizes that every patient and their situation is unique. Therefore, she enjoys providing individualized care that fits the needs of both owner and their four legged family members. She offers an integrative approach to health for any owners interested. Away from the clinic Dr. Kourtney spends time on her hobby farm with her husband, three children and two Dobermans. She spends much time cooking meals from her own garden produce. Her farm is also home to a small flock of Katahdin sheep, as well as dearly loved barn cats, some rabbits, chickens, and the occasional group of turkeys and ducks. Dr. Kourtney spent many years involved in the dog sport formally called Schutzhund, now IGP. She loved training and trialing her dogs for the sport, and hopes to one day return to it.
Janet Passant, Client Service Specialist
Janet grew up on a dairy farm not too far from our clinic in Rockton, Ontario. She loved being around the calves, kittens, and farm dogs which eventually led to her passion for providing care for animals here at Troy Animal Hospital! Janet is committed to her understanding that pets are always “Man’s Best Friend”. They don’t judge you, are always happy to see you, and never fail to make you smile! This is why Janet is the face of our clinic, being the smile you see when you first walk through the door, or the listening ear and helpful voice on the other end of the phone. She has a natural ability when it comes to talking and listening to all our clients needs. She finds joy each day in interacting with our patients. Outside of the clinic you could find Janet snowmobiling at their northern cabin, helping out at her farm at home, and spending time with her husband, 3 daughters and their partners.
